Abstract

This study examines the accessibility to public healthcare facility in Benin Metropolis. The objectives of the study were to ascertain the socio demographic characteristics in Benin Metropolis, determine the factors responsible for the disparities in the distribution of public healthcare, to examine the factors that affect utilization and accessibility of public healthcare services rendered. Lastly, to measure the quality of healthcare services rendered at these public healthcare facilities. The study adopted the use facility interview guide and respondent questionnaires. 400 copies of questionnaires were administered to respondents while 10 copies questionnaires were administered to 10 selected public healthcare facilities within the Metropolis. From the data collected, it was discovered that public healthcare facilities are clustered in distribution, the public healthcare facilities are accessible and it was also discovered that there are not shortages of healthcare within the study area. From the findings, it was severally recommended that rehabilitation of all blighted structures should be carried out to encourage more patronage and better service delivery; a policy framework for the regular maintenance and provision of necessary equipment that would encourage accessibility and utilization of public healthcare facilities should be enacted.
