ABSTRACT

This study investigated academic factors influencing learning outcomes among undergraduate nursing students in university of Benin, Benin City, Edo State. Two research questions were raised to act as a guide to the study. The questions bordered on the socio-demographic factors influencing undergraduate nursing students and the factors influencing the learning outcomes of undergraduate nursing students in University of Benin. A cross sectional descriptive survey research was employed in carrying out the study. The population for this study was two hundred and seventy-four (274) nursing undergraduate student in University of Benin. An instrument titled “factors influencing learning outcomes among undergraduate nursing students in University of Benin, was used for data collection. The collected data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and t-test statistics. The findings revealed that age, sex, level and religion are the socio-demographic factors influencing the learning outcomes of undergraduate nursing students in university of Benin. Also, there is a significant relationship between lack of assessment of instructional materials and learning outcomes. Based on the study it was concluded there are various academic factors that influence undergraduate nursing student in university of Benin such as: physiological wellbeing, assessment of learning outcomes, social environment and physical condition of the environment. In line with the findings, the following recommendations were made:School authorities should provide a good and conducive learning environment for nursing students.
