ABSTRACT
A total number of 478 flies were collected during this study of which 234 were houseflies and 244 blowflies. The total numbers of flies collected in the morning and for evening were 239. The abundance of houseflies and blowflies collected varied according to location, time and sampling days. The result from the study revealed that the blowflies were more abundant with 51.1% while (244) the houseflies were 49.0% (234). These flies encountered in this study are characteristic of dumpsites and are mechanical vectors of several diseases. The health of the students is very important, as a healthy student is required for productive learning. The ready removal of the waste from the sites is an evidence of control measure, thereby checkmating the spread of these diseases from the student hostels.
