A SURVEY OF THE RELEVANCE OF BUSINESS EDUCATION PROGRAM TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN EDO STATE A CASE STUDY: UNIVERSITY OF BENIN

ABSTRACT

This study is aimed at determining the influence of students' perceptions of the teaching profession on their academic performance in business education in the University of Benin. The study was carried out in business education course area under the department of vocational and technical education with a population of 416 people Five research questions were formulated to guide the study, a descriptive survey research design was adopted and structured questionnaire made up to (30) items were used for data collection. The questionnaire was validated by two lecturers in the department. The data collected was analyzed using mean and standard deviation (SD).The study discovers that there is a positive influence of students’ perceptions on their academic performance and it also helps facilitate the teaching and learning processes. Based on these findings, the researcher recommend that: cordial relationship between the student and teacher should be improved upon, Environment for instructional delivery should be conducive for learning ;with teaching and learning facilities put in place for effective learning to occur: Students' orientation program should be organized as this plays an important role in the student transition to a university life. Enough funds should be budgeted for education and utilized judiciously without diverting it for selfish interest.
