ABSRACT

This study seeks to look at a survey of methods of teaching writing skills at the junior secondary school level in Ovia North East Local Government Area, Edo State. The research aims to assess how teaching approaches and attitudes impact the achievement of objectives in writing composition instruction. Utilizing a sample of 60 students from two junior secondary schools, the study focuses on determining the different teaching methods and activities used, exploring the content taught in writing composition, and discovering motivating factors for learners. Employing a survey research design, the study utilizes a cross-sectional approach to gather data, with questionnaires as the primary research instrument. The validity of the questionnaire is ensured through content validity testing, while reliability is confirmed via a pilot study. Data collection involves administering questionnaires personally and conducting short interviews to gather detailed information. Data analysis will utilize descriptive statistics and simple percentage to present sociodemographic characteristics and analyze major research issues. Additionally, the study reviews relevant literature, theory, and empirical research to provide a comprehensive understanding of effective teaching strategies in writings composition at the junior secondary school level.
