Stylistic is the study of style. Style here refers to the choice made by a language user from the unlimited vocabulary available to him. This study focus on the inscriptions on tricycle in some eastern part of Nigeria. Namely, Abia and Imo so as to examine how the inscriptions convey specific message for human understanding and the styles they employ in the act of communication.
The study employed observation method in collection of data, interview and focus group discussion (FGD) were used to ascertain the messages they were trying to convey. The data were classified according to language use and later regrouped to language acts which were interpreted using speech acts theory.
From the findings of the study, it was discovered that every inscription, no matter the language in which it was inscribed has their intended message. It is therefore concluded that inscriptions on tricycle serves as a means of communication.
