ABSTRACT

The study was able to identify and explain language features that characterize the style of language use in Arise TV Morning Show news headlines. In doing this, graphology, lexico semantics, and syntax were examined. The first chapter, served as the introductory chapter highlighting the purpose, scope, methodology, theoretical framework, reviews of related scholarships, and thesis statement of the study. It proposed the adoption of a qualitative and quantitative research methodology that focused on the quality of the sampled data to arrive at conclusions, primarily employing textual analysis.Fifty headlines were presented as data and were all analyzed using Halliday's “Systemmic Functional Grammar.” Relevant headlines displayed during Arise TV Morning Show were reviewed, and the necessity of this research was justified.

The second chapter of this essay delves in to the graphological features as discovered in the displayed headlines on Arise TV Morning Show News broadcast. It is discovered that Arise TV editors stick to the display of capital letters during their program. There is strict adherence to the use of uppercase letters for the display of their headlines which aids in the Visibility of the graphemes. Another distinct discovery in this chapter is the frequent use of numerical data and signs (%, 1) to make concise details on the headlines. These signs used must be culturally- related and sensitive so as to aid viewers understanding.
