ABSTRACT

This research work attempts a stylistic analysis ofA selected poems in Kola Eke's collection titled May 27 and other poems. The first chapter introduces the work with the purpose and scope of study, methodology, theoretical background (where the approach to be used to carry out the research is stated), review of literature and concludes with thesis statement that says the essay looks at how Eke uses foregrounded features to create beauty and convey the themes of migration, greed, quest for social justice, corruption, poverty, oppression, tyranny and politics. An analysis of the graphological and phonological features found in the collection is what Chapter two is all about. Graphology was defined by different linguists and scholars. After this, the graphological features were discussed with reference to the selected poems. Line initial capitals, capitalization, punctuation, (asterisks, dashes and comma) and indentation are the features present in the selected poems. The term phonology was defined in the first section of chapter two. Phonological features such as repetition, refrain, alliteration, assonance, consonance, anaphora and epistrophe were discussed and instances from the text were highlighted.
