ABSTRACT
This study investigated “Directing in Nollywood, The Problems and Prospects”, the objective was to investigate the significance of the director in Nollywood, examine the challenges of directing in Nollywood, highlight the prospects of directing in Nollywood and so on, to achieve this aim, the study adopted a survey design was adopted for the collection of its primary data, to this end a population of 250 people were examined, a sample size was extracted from movie producers and movie watchers in the Benin city metropolis using the Taro Yamen’s formula. Results show that two of the major challenges faced with directing is the overbearing interference from producers, and financial constraints. Against the backdrop of the findings, the study recommended among other things, that financial support is necessary, stakeholders in Nollywood should explore avenues for providing financial support to filmmakers, particularly emerging talents, to address the prevalent issue of financial constraints, and industry collaboration, the study encourages collaboration between directors, producers, and actors to enhance the quality of Nollywood films and mitigate challenges related to egos and working relationships.
