ABSTRACT
Undoubtedly one of the main purposes of theatre in the world to to serve as a tool for social change and a social mirror of sorts, a means by which the flaws of society are reflected back to the society. Many dramatists use their various styles and genres of writing plays for this singular purpose. And this has been done with drama dating back to the Greek classical error with plays like "Lysistrata" by Aristophanes and "The Bacchae" by Euripides being written to address critical Social problems that the playwrights noticed. Some playwrights even proffer solutions to these social issues raised in the plays. Femi Osofisan is one of such playwrights, and In this work we would be analysing two of his plays "Morountodun" and "The Chattering and the song" to understand how Osofisan depicts the social injustice and how he proposes social change through his plays. Femi Osofisan uses stories from history to create a world in which various parts of society are symbolically represented. In other words the historical account is used as a metaphor for modern society. This study is a means by which the message of the plays can be properly broken down to better understand the problems in our society and to find solutions.
