ABSTRACT

This study explores the diverse soil compositions within Benin City, analyzing their physical mechanical and hydraulic prosperities to assess their suitability for construction purposes. Utilizing extensive field surveys, laboratory test, and geospatial analysis, this investigation aims to categorize the soils based on their lateritic properties, characteristics, identifying their strengths, weaknesses, and potential applications in construction. By providing a comprehensive understanding of soil behavior, this research seeks to aid Urban planners, Architects, Engineers, and Developers in making informed decisions regarding appropriate soil selection for sustainable and resilient construction projects in Benin City. Sample (disturbed) were collected from three (3) different locations at a depth of 1.5m below the ground level and tests were carried out on each of the samples. The various laboratory test carried out on each sample included Natural Moisture Analysis Test, Bulk density, compaction Test, Permeability Test After bergs Limit Test. During the conduct of the test, data were recorded and calculations leading to various results were computed. Based on the result, conclusions were proffered.
