ABSTRACT
Nigeria has become known as the "giant of Africa" due to her Afrocentric ideology, however some call her a "sleeping giant". After independence, Nigeria made it her main mission to liberate other African countries and ensure peace on the continent. She didn't expect a quantifiable advantage from the program. On the other hand, a country's foreign policy should serve its population, but Nigeria's Afrocentric foreign policy hasn't. Its results cannot be compared to what she spent implementing it. Some of the countries Nigeria has aided do not repay the favor, and Nigerians' rights are not always respected. Nigeria's Afrocentric foreign policy is a "Nigeria poison" because it has hurt Nigerians more than it has helped Africa. Thus, Nigeria should revolutionize her foreign policy 43 by prioritizing the Afrocentric posture of her foreign policy and being more national interest focused to negotiate successfully the murky waters of international politics, where might is right. Since foreign policy is closely linked to national interests, Nigeria should ensure that her foreign policy objectives are closely tied to the core values of the state and its citizens.
