ABSTRACT

This study examines adobe floor construction in Benin City, Nigeria, focusing on materials, processes, benefits, challenges, and current practices. Adobe floors are a sustainable, cost-effective alternative to cement flooring, utilizing locally sourced soil and sand. The research, based on literature review, field observations, and interviews, reveals benefits such as durability and minimal maintenance, but also challenges like water damage susceptibility and skilled labour requirements. The study emphasizes community engagement, artisan training, and technology adoption to address these challenges and promote sustainable building practices. The findings contribute to the understanding of traditional building techniques and their relevance to contemporary construction.
