ABSTRACT

The water Packaging industry faces a critical challenge in ensuring the consistent quality of sachet water. Defective products, such as leaks, underfilled sachets, e.t.c. compromise both customer satisfaction and regulatory compliance. Frequent quality issues lead to increased waste, higher operational costs, and potential health risks. The variability in production processes often makes it difficult to identify the root causes of defects. As such, there is a need for effective quality control methods to continuously monitor and reduce defects in sachet water production.

In this project, the focus was on assessing the quality control of the sachet drinking water product at Uniben Water Enterprise in Ekenwan Campus, To address this challenge, statistical quality control (SQC) techniques were employed using p-charts and C-charts. The p-chart was used to determine if the fraction of defective sachets in each batch of production was consistent over time, providing insights into whether the process was operating within acceptable limits. In Comparison, the C-chart was implemented to track the number of defects per batch. Data was collected over several production cycles, and control limits were set to identify whether or not the production was in statistical control. The analysis aimed to detect patterns in defects, allowing for targeted interventions in the production line.

The results showed that most of the process data fell within the range of specifications, indicating that the process is in control and capable of producing acceptable products which can be competitive in the market. To improve their goods, however, those that are out of control and linked to assignable causes such as mechanical error, lack of personal training, etc.—must undergo process monitoring and evaluation.
