ABSTRACT

WhatsApp and similar messaging apps have changed how we communicate in recent years. WhatsApp messages are known for being short and informal, with abbreviations and emojis. This study looked at WhatsApp messages closely to analyze the context, by utilizing the S-P-E-A-K-I-N-G model of Hymes Ethnography of communication. The study had three main goals, Firstly, to find out what makes WhatsApp messages different. Second, to see how these differences help people communicate, lastly, to understand what WhatsApp messages tell us about how people act and think online. The Study found that WhatsApp messages are special because they use abbreviations, emojis, and short sentences. They break grammar rules but help people chat faster and express their feelings. WhatsApp messages also show how we use technology to talk quickly in a digital world. They create their own groups and communities with their own way of talking. This study helps us understand this new way of communicating and how language changes in the digital age. It's important for educators and language experts to know about these changes so they can help people communicate better online. In short, our study explored WhatsApp messages' uniqueness and why they matter in our digital world.
