ABSTRACT
This research is on burial and it is focused on the working of SPEAKING model on Igbo land. The data obtained for this research was from Otolo, Nnewi in Anambra state, where people who are knowledgeable about Nnewi culture were helpful to this effect. The need for this research is for those (especially the young Igbos) who do not know their cultures and how they are practiced to have idea on how one aspect of culture is done.
The framework used for this research is semiotic and the SPEAKING model which deals on analysis of signs, symbols, communication with the wider context of the social and culture practices and beliefs of the members of a particular culture or speech community.
The techniques used in collecting data were interview of persons and observation. The data was thoroughly analyzed.
