ABSTRACT
This study was carried out on the topic “A semantic analysis of verbs of perception in OZAH dialect”. The primary motivation for the study was to x determine what verb categories exist in the dialect and the semantic implications of verbs of perception in sentential constructions. Employing the qualitative method of data collection, interviews were conducted with native speakers of the language. Chafe’s semantic structure theory on verbs was employed to analyse the verbs of perception in OZAH. The descriptive linguistic framework was also employed for data analysis. Chafe’s theory on semantics and verbs which specifies that verbs are the central semantic unit for sentential construction include state, action and process verbs. The structure of some of the verbs of perception were examined as some verbs of perception in OZAH have undergone the morphological process of compounding, their transitivity alternations were also examined.
