The need to convey information brings about the coining of different forms of languages; the existence of slang is as a result to convey information in a different and unique form. Slangs are informal means of communications used to convey ideas and information in specific environments and settings. The title of this investigation hence is to carry out a semantic study on selected slangs in Nigerian Pidgin, the study aim at bringing out the meaning embedded in these slangy expressions. The study collected it data using the oral interview method; the qualitative research design was used as the research mechanism. Related works of literature are reviewed, subsequently data are presented and grouped based on their functions, and the speech act theory by Austin (1975) was used in the analysis of the data collected. The analysis of the data shows that slangs have, their locutionary (dictionary meaning), illocutionary (the speakers meaning) and the perlocutionary (the effect of these meaning on listener), further it is deduced that slangy expressions cannot be used in all context and environment, only the environment in the fosters and promotes their usage.
