Abstract

Fungi are eukaryotic, achlorophyllous, spore forming organisms that are ubiquitous in nature. Fungi majorly cause diseases in plants and animals, fungi are classified into five major phyla which are; phylum Zygomycota whose representative organism is the black bread mold , phylum Ascomycota whose representative organism is the baker's yeast, phylum Basidiomycota whose representative organism is the mushroom, phylum Deuteromycota, and  phylum Chytridiomycota. On the basis of nutrition, fungi are characterized into three groups which are saorophytic fungi, parasitic fungi, and symbiotic fungi. Fungi has two major methods of reproduction which are the asexual method and the sexual method. Fungi has both positive and negative impacts on plants, man, economy, and ecosystem. orchard can be defined as a garden or an area of land set aside for the cultivation of fruit and nut trees. In the orchard of the University, citrus trees are the predominant tree species found. A variety of fungi was found in the orchard these various fungal species caused diseases in the plants, helped in the decomposition of organic matter found in the ground level,  and played one role or the other in the functioning of the orchard ecosystem. The growth forms considered in this work are trees, shrubs, and aerophytes. The fungi found in the orchard was observed to exhibit various relationships or interactions with the plants, these interactions include parasitism, commensalism, and saprophytism
