ABSTRACT
This study set out to examine the pragmatic analysis of WhatsApp chats. The purpose of this research is to provide the knowledge of how meaning is conveyed in the minds of these users of the platform (whatsApp). Specifically, the research objectives are to investigate the context in which emojis and stickers are used, to examine the semantic representation of emojis and stickers, to identify the types of abbreviations and categories of emojis used in WhatsApp chats. The study adopted the primary method of data collection. The study adopted Dixon's Basic Linguistic Theory (1997) which is a model of descriptive Linguistics. This study analyzed 103 WhatsApp chats and discovered that emojis and stickers have helped to remove ambiguity in the minds of the users thereby enhancing quality communication. It was discovered that abbreviations are used when typing to make typing faster. This study is significant to persons who have access to WhatsApp and the internet.
