ABSTRACT
This research is designed to examine the use of abbreviated messages on social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, Whtsapp, Facebook, etc focusing on the pragmatic functions of this messages and the ways in which they are used to communicate complex idea and emotions. The study finds that abbreviated messages, such as ‘LOL’, and ‘OMG’, are used to express a wide range of feelings, including humor, excitement, and annoyance. These messages are also used to build and maintain relationships and to express a sense of belonging within a social group In conclusion, the research concludes that these abbreviated messages are a valuable and innovative form of communication, and that they play an important role in the way that people interact with each other on social media.
