ABSTRACT
This research work scrutinized the domains of Language use in New yam festivals in Igbodo. Other studies have been done on language use in other Nigerian language like Igbo and Edo. This work intends to fill the gap of the proper documentation of Language use in Igbodo New yam festivals. The theoretical framework used to carry out this work is ‘The Ethnography of Communication”. The source of this project is gotten from interviews, which is the primary data and video, books, dictionaries which are secondary data. The findings of the study are the different categorization of language use which are ; language use in Prayers, language use in Advertising, language use in introduction and greeting, language use in description of festivals. In conclusion, festivals are part of the culture of the community and promoting culture avoids the death of the language. Festivals are not evil but considered a way of promoting the language.
