ABSTRACT
This study delved deep into the lexico semantic use of coinage in Nigeria’s 2023 general election, especially the obidient campaign. It explores coinages as a linguistic strategy and a tool to articulate their political views in Nigeria's 2023 general election. This study sheds light on the importance of discourse in political spheres as a means through which the less powerful oppose inequality, social and political injustice or power imbalance. With the use of qualitative methodology, it unbiasedly dissected the language choices in the forms coinages. Guided by Norman Fairclough’s “socio-cultural approach to discourse”, this study vividly shows how discourse have the able to not only criticize power assymetric but also contribute to our understanding of political tension in 2023 Nigeria election. Through its comprehensive exploration, this research left no room for doubt that coinage Contribute immensely to political cohesion and the 2023 electoral process.
