ABSTRACT:
The particular aim of this study is to expose every details as it relates the meaning analysis of Igbo Nouns in general, particularly the Ibadan 400 word list. This research Analysis goes further into the approaches or theoretical conceptions of various scholars in the realization of the semantics that characterize the present study as it concerns the Igbo Nouns, hence their Analysis. The need for this analytical study is to bring about clarity of features and their usage amidst expressions or utterances, also all other components constituting the Analysis. A non-participant observation technique was applied in the course of this research Investigation, and the population sample or audience of persons targeted for this research are people of all age categories( the Igbo Human Race generally), with the condition that takes on only the Intuitive Contributions of the Competent Igbo Speakers. The Ibadan 400 Word list would serve as a clear guide and the approved word list of Basic items for this research. So, as much as this is known, the Ibadan 400 Word list comprised of several Basic lexical items used everyday in the speech community by the various categories of persons, ranging from the middle aged to the Adults and then the very advanced speakers. The medium for this data collection is the Ibadan 400 Word list written and mapped out offline and online. This list is also used for comparative studies, phonological investigations and meaning Analysis in totality .For this list of lexical items to take on their Igbo forms, an oral interview section was carried out in the university of Benin with certain competent speakers of the language where the standard Igbo language was the core approved form. Some Approaches which were specifically semantic theories of Analysis were applied and maximized in achieving the success of this Investigation. These approaches are basically semantics-related theories and Ideologies of which the Binary feature semantic approach, the componential Analysis Method, The semantic Field theoretical framework are major semantic theories employed in the analysis of these Igbo Nouns. Further intentional study for knowledge acquirement and clarity would recommend a consistent and deliberately "check-up effort" For material and ideas in this regards.
