ABSTRACT

Human rights are fundamental rights and freedoms that every individual is entitled to, regardless of their nationality, ethnicity, religion, or social status. These rights include but are not limited to the right to life, liberty, equality, and freedom from discrimination, torture, and arbitrary detention. In Nigeria, the concept of human rights has been enshrined in various national and international legal instruments, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Nigerian Constitution. Despite these legal protections, human rights violations have been pervasive throughout Nigerian history. From the pre-colonial era to the present day, individuals and communities have faced egregious violations of their rights, often with devastating consequences. These violations encompass a wide range of abuses, including extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, torture, sexual violence, arbitrary arrests, and restrictions on freedom of expression and assembly. This project went further to place the spotlight on the various forms of human rights violations that have occurred over the years in Nigeria.
