ABSTRACT
This project work has looked into the concept of urban sprawl and its impacts on the inhabitants of Benin City. The aims and objectives of this project was mainly to monitor the rate and level of sprawl in Benin City and examine the impacts this has on the inhabitants. Primary data used for this project work included personal interviews, field observations and questionnaire while secondary data included materials from books, journals, magazines, newspapers and satellite images. Data was gotten from observed sprawl areas at the fringe limits of the city. The results showed that Benin City has expanded considerably from 1993 to 2013 and that this urban expansion has negative financial effects on the inhabitants. The project recommended that expansion around already established areas should be encouraged and that government should make provisions for infrastructures in sprawl areas.
