ABSTRACT

A total of twenty-five 25 ditch cutting samples from OG-1 well were provided for sedimentological analysis between the interval of 9080-12440ft with the aim of carrying out a detailed foraminifera biostratigraphic analysis of the well. The sedimentological analysis with sample description yielded lithologies that are sandy shale, shaly sand and shale. The minerals observed are quartz and carbonates. The sediments were treated in the laboratory to concentrate the foraminifera and promote their microscopic observation. The sediments recovered from OG-1 well in Niger Delta are Late Eocene in age based on the co-occurrence of stratigraphic markers Nonion Oyae and Hopkinsina Hourqi. Foraminifera zonation of the well was based on the first downhole and last downhole occurrence of chronostratigraphically significant species. The sediments have been assigned to the F5700 and F7200 zones. The depositional environment is shallow, from Inner Neritic to Middle Neritic. This research was done under limited time frame; hence the following should be done:

  1. A further work should be carried out on this area at M.sc level.
  2. More data should be gathered from both seismic, palynology and more in-depth sedimentological analysis.
  3. Geophysical and geochemical analysis should be carried out on the area to determine the productivity of this well.
