ABSTRACT

This study the descriptive study of Ẹdo pronouns, it is aimed at investigating what pronouns entail in Edo language, identify the types of pronouns in the language, account for the functions of pronouns. Data collection included observations, examination of textbooks, and analysis of scholarly articles in Edo language. Both qualitative and 9 quantitative methods were utilized to analyze the collected data, providing a comprehensive understanding of the use of pronouns in the Edo language. The study adopted Basic Linguistic Theory (BLT) by R. M. W Dixon as its theoretical framework. Descriptive linguistic theory explores how pronouns function within a language and the various patterns and rules that govern their usage. The study therefore revealed that there are pronouns in Edo and its types like Subject pronouns e.g (Imẹ/mẹ/I, Uwẹ/wẹ/U), object pronoun e.g (Mẹ/n'ime, Wẹ/n'uwẹ) which are functional.
