ABSTRACT

The fundamental pivot around which the medical profession revolves is the duty of confidentiality. The goal is to make sure that patients and other people who utilize health services have no difficulty in telling a doctor anything about their health so that they may get the treatment they need. The idea of patient confidentiality is getting harder to sustain as a result of the advancement of current Information technology and the rise of multidisciplinary teamwork in primary healthcare. It is imperative that medical practitioners adapt more explicit negotiations about how patients’ information would be recorded and transferred. The aim of this long essay is to provide a guide on the various ethical principles that protects the interest of the patients as well as the healthcare practitioner. On that note, this research therefore employs a critical and analytic method in other to showcase the issues and problems arising when confidentiality is breached and examine ethical responsibilities. The application of ethical concepts in healthcare is optimal for the overall benefit of patients since ethics in healthcare have evolved to guide decision-making process. Healthy relations can grow between the two parties when there is patient trust and confidentiality in healthcare practices which must also be at the interest of the majority.
