ABSTRACT

One of the striking and fundamental issues in most socio-political states is the problem of “Alienation”. The term Alienation which mean estrangement is one that bothered the thoughts of Karl Marx. The argument in Marx’s theory of Alienation displayed a dis-satisfaction in the alienating and exploiting treatment on the workers in the capitalist society. Marx theory of Alienation however, has formed a foundation for the evaluation of this research work. The Nigerian society is not one which is exempted from the ills or alienation. This project work tends to display the alienating act of the so called political elites of the Nigerian state on its citizens and thus render them to lavish in poverty while the political elites flaunt in the graces and benefits of the society that is supposed to be enjoyed the masses. The act of alienation displayed greatly in the Niger-Delta region as a result of oil exploitation has rendered the people of this region in abject poverty, unemployment and insecurity and other vulnerable to other social and political vices. There is thus a need to look into Marx proposition for societal change as a means for freedom from the shackles of alienation as well as to enhance self-determination and control over their material conditions.
