ABSTRACT
This study conducts a critical discourse analysis of the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant, examining the power relations and underlying ideologies within the parable. Through a socio-cognitive lens, the analysis explores how Jesus strategically employs language to silently communicate social commentaries. Findings reveal a hierarchical power structure, with the king possessing supreme authority over servants. Jesus’ linguistic choice of words endorses ideologies around capitalism, slavery, and social inequality. However, the parable primarily promotes ideologies of divine forgiveness and mercy. This study demonstrates how critical discourse analysis unmasks the socio-cultural meanings encoded within biblical parables.
