ABSTRACT
International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and International Human Rights Law (IHRL) are both branches of public international law. IHL is generally referred to as the law of armed conflict, whereas human rights are considered sacred and inherent in man. However, the relationship between these bodies of international law is disputed by some persons who have alleged that they indeed share no relationship. The desire to carry out this reach is attributed to a discovery that the relationship between IHL and Human Rights Law is disputed and it was even more fired up by the assertion that IHL prevents the application of Human rights in times of armed conflict. Thus, the need to do this research work. This research work examines the relationship between these bodies of international law and their interaction in times armed conflict. This work also proposes to respond to the assertion that IHL precludes the applicability of human rights in times of armed conflict as well as discuss the challenges encountered by both branches when applied. This research work recommends that it is necessary to create an atmosphere for effective working together of IHL and Human Rights in times of armed conflict.
