ABSTRACT

This paper reports is an investigation towards the development of rubberized brick by utilizing crumb rubber as the sole fine aggregate in the production of interlocking rubberized bricks. This report entails the production process of rubberized bricks and to carry out test on its engineering properties such as its compressive strength and acid resistance abilities in comparison with ordinary Portland cement bricks. This report also entails the proper detailing of the production process involved in the production of the rubberized bricks, which includes scrap tyres collection, shredding & cutting, crushing, primary magnetic separation, fiber separation, rubber crumb size separation, crumb mixing, hydraulic pressing, oven drying. Comparisons will be made with ordinary Portland cement bricks which is produced in the laboratory by mixing cement, aggregate and water. Also, compressive strength test and water absorption test will be carried out check the engineering properties of the produced rubber bricks and also on the ordinary Portland cement brick produced. The results produced will be detailed and compared to know how effective rubberized bricks can be in place of ordinary Portland cement bricks.
