ABSTRACT
This study delves into the critical role of Benin movies in the promotion of arts, culture, and tourism development in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, focusing specifically on the movies "Esohe" and "Invasion 1897". Nigeria's diverse cultural heritage and artistic traditions are intertwined with its tourism potential, making the promotion of arts and culture a powerful economic and cultural driver. The emergence of media platforms has revolutionized the dissemination of cultural information, and Benin City, with its rich cultural heritage, has become a hub for Nigeria's movie industry, Nollywood. This research addresses the need to understand the specific impact of Benin movies on promoting Benin culture and fostering tourism development in the region. It also investigates challenges facing the movie industry in Benin City, including funding, distribution, and piracy, and proposes solutions to these issues. The study provides insights into how movies can effectively promote tourism development in Benin City and potentially in other regions of Nigeria and beyond. The significance of this study lies in its potential to inform policymakers, movie industry stakeholders, and tourism development agencies, aiding the formulation of strategies and policies that facilitate the growth of the movie industry and the tourism sector in Benin City.
